Families will also need to contact the dual immersion school to notify them of their interest in enrolling in the program during the enrollment process in order to complete an interest form to be placed on the interest list.

Note: Your position on the interest list will be established once you have completed all registration and enrollment paperwork.  (interest form at Dolland Elementary, online registration, and permits if applicable)

Families living outside the boundaries of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District who are wishing to enroll their students in the dual immersion program will need to request an Inter-District permit from their district of residence. Once released, please deliver the permit documents to the Norwalk-La Mirada Student and Family Services Office located at 12820 Pioneer Blvd, Norwalk, CA 90650, Room 29.

Acceptance

Each dual immersion school maintains its own interest list for the program. Enrollment is based on a target balance of 50% English speaking students and 50% Spanish speaking students. This provides both groups with positive language models throughout their instruction. Students can be enrolled regardless of language background through the enrollment process. All enrollment forms must be completed in order to be placed on the interest list.

Acceptance to the program is based two factors (2024-25 school year only):

  1. Results of a language assessment. This assesses a student's current language dominance. The NLMUSD dual immersion program is designed to have classes that consist of 50% students with English as their dominant language, and 50% students with dominance in the target language (Spanish). This class make-up ensures that each student group has language models that support biliteracy acquisition. Appointments for assessment will be scheduled by the school site.
  2. Once all assessments have been completed, the school site will conduct a drawing to create the class based on the results of the assessment. The class will consist of 50% English and  50% Spanish dominant students (or as close as possible).

Families will be notified of their official acceptance to the program by the school site.

Waitlist

Once the class is filled, a waitlist will be implemented and families will be contacted by the school site by order of the drawing results if spaces become available.

Within the first week of the start of school, any withdrawals or no-shows from the program will be replaced with students from the waitlist.
